Baikal Ice Marathon Completed!

A couple of months ago we donated some Merrell True Gloves to Phillip Blazdell and Trevor Rackley who were at the time training for the Baikal Ice Marathon. They have now both completed the event, so major congratulations goes out to them from the entire Outdoorkit team!

Thankfully conditions were more than favourable for them and they completed the marathon in an impressive time of 5 hours 3 mins. The guys very kindly sent us a letter earlier this week thanking us for our support and giving us an insight into the race itself! Have a gander for yourselves...

"On the 3rd of March 2012, Trevor and I completed the 2012 Baikal Ice Marathon in Siberia. We crossed the finish line in a time of 5 hours 3 mins after running across one of the world’s unique landscapes. Conditions on Race Day were exceptional and we were blessed with sunshine and blue skies. Such were the conditions that the World Record for Ice Marathon running was broken that day. Our own run certainly didn’t break any records but we completed the race and on the spectacular, beautiful and frozen course, this seems like enough of an achievement.

The last year has been incredible in so many ways. Aside from covering hundreds of miles in training, early morning weights and kettle-bell sessions and even the odd session on the bike, we have also raised about £7,000 for our charity.

Our chosen charity, The Iain Rennie Hospice At Home, receives only 12% of the money needed to run from the NHS, so events such as ours which raise both funds and awareness are invaluable. The money we raised will pay for 24 hour nursing cover for 6 weeks. This can be an invaluable life-line for people whose sole wish is to die in their own home with peace and dignity.

Without your incredible generosity and financial support we would never have been able to raise such a sum. Your donations have made a very real and measurable impact on many people in our community and have helped us fulfil our original goal of ‘changing a few lives…’

On behalf of myself, Trevor, and especially the charity, we would like to thank you for your support in this venture and helping us support a valuable resource in our community."
