Over the last couple of years or so Barefoot Running has really come into it's own, there have been numerous articles in the national and international press, not too mention countless celebrity sightings, one of the most famous to date seeing Scarlett Johansson being snapped while out for a morning jog in her pair of pink Vibram FiveFingers. So it's safe to say the barefoot revolution has really kicked off. We're currently stocking three brands of barefoot trainers, all of which feature their own unique designs and constructions to help you interactive best with your chosen running environment.
We have Merrell barefoot, VivoBarefoot and of course the Vibram FiveFingers range, of which we're going to take a look at two new additions today!
This week has seen the arrival of the Vibram FiveFingers Seeya Footwear and the Vibram FiveFingers Spyridon Footwear. The Seeya is the lightest FiveFinger available today so it's ideal for the serious minimalist running. It's been designed to help you come even closer to the perfect barefoot experience. Overall weight and material has been reduced, coupling that with an even more breathable upper to deliver a real performance driven piece of footwear.
Vibram have used the minimum amount of rubber on the outsole possible to optimize foot feel and flexibility, all the while maintaining excellent underfoot protection. A TPU midsole also further reduces the thickness of the Seeya to promote natural foot movement. It features a stitched in Polyurethane insole to protect the skin and foot tissue when wearing on longer runs. To maintain that natural barefoot feel, the shoes need to be fairly snug up against your foot, and the Seeya's adjustable hook and loop closure helps to do exactly that.
The Seeya also features an Anti-Microbial Dri-Lex sockliner to help get rid of nasty odours. They're also very handily machine washable. It's also worth mentioning that with all FiveFingers we do recommend going down 1 or 2 sizes to get that snug fit. For a lot of people going down the one size works fine, others find going down 2 sizes is needed to really get that barefoot feel, unfortunately it's not a precise science! The Vibram FiveFingers Seeya Footwear cost £112.49 and weigh in at an impressively lightweight 136g. We currently have them in stock in the rather vibrant colour of Black/Day Glow.
Another new addition to our range is the Vibram FiveFingers Spyridon Footwear. All in all FiveFingers are generally quite versatile beasts, however the Spyridon is Vibram's first trail running specific trainer and it's got the aggressive tread design to prove it. The Spyridon features a minimalist Vibram rubber sole with that aggressive tread design to provide excellent traction, protection from stones and debris, while all the while maintaining the shoes barefoot qualities for in depth interaction with the environment. The Spyridon's lightweight mesh upper allows for fantastic breathability and wicking and it's adjustable hook and loop closure gives them that snug fit.
Like the Seeya, the Spyridon has a Polyurethane insole to protect your feet. The Spyridon also has a moulded nylon mesh insole to add a 'rock block' effect, which helps to disperse the impact of rougher terrains over a wider area.
The Vibram FiveFingers Spyridon Footwear costs £116.99 and come in Black/Orange for Men and Lilac/Black/Green for Women.
