DogStar Flyball Team

Thought we'd post a little update on the Outdoorkit sponsored DogStar Flyball Team. They've just sent us in this photo of them all out in the sunshine wearing their North Face T-shirts with pride! Despite the roasting conditions they finished 1st at the meet in Epworth and a respectable 4th at the meet in Ravensknowle. It's not long until the Flyball championships in August!

If your yelling at the computer screen, "What the heck is Flyball?!" then here's the low down...

Flyball started as a dog sport in the late 1960's in the USA, when dog trainers combined combined scent hurdle racing with the dogs bringing back a tennis ball to the finish line. Then a tennis ball-launching apparatus was added and the first flyball box was born. Herbert Wagner is credited with making the first real flyball box. The first ever tournament was held in 1983. Flyball is essentially a rely race in which two teams of four dogs race against each other over a line of four jumps to a box. When the first dog presses the spring loaded box a ball is released which the dog then catches and runs back over whilst carrying the ball. The first team to have all four dogs cross the finish line error free wins the heat, each race is the best of five.
