Berghaus Paclite Jacket

Gore-Tex Paclite has been designed to provide the waterproofing and breathability you expect from Regular Gore-Tex but without the weight and bulk. This makes it an ideal summer wateproof that's easy to scrunch up and stuff into your bag so that it's there only if you need it.

The Berghaus Paclite Jacket uses Gore-Tex Paclite Helium combined with Paclite Micro Tape to seal all the seams. This makes sure the jacket is waterproof without adding all the weight of sticthing. This means the jacket weighs a measly 340g, less than half the weight of a standard Gore-Tex jacket. It comes with its own stuff sack and packs down to slightly larger than a large orange in your bag. Not the smallest or lightest Paclite jacket on the market, but it's more durable than many others and it's also a reasonable price.

The only down side to Paclite is that it's not quite as waterproof as standard Gore-Tex, but then the jacket is designed to keep summer showers off you, not winter deluges! Another thing to bear in mind is that Gore-Tex requires a temperature differential between your skin and the ambient air to draw moisture away from you. This means that the breathability is affected by hot weather; we have had some people complain that the Paclite isn't breathable at 25C - this isn't a fault, Gore-Tex just isn't very breathable at these temperatures!
