Lights. Camera. Action!

You might remember we donated some kit to Paul Sanders, The Times picture editor, for his trip out to Northern Lapland to photograph the Northern Lights. He went out there with Andy Keen, who runs Aurora Hunters. Well he's been there, done it and by goodness has he got the t-shirt!

I genuinely can't remember seeing anything quite as beautiful! Their mind bogglingly stunning!

Also Paul has done a write up of his adventures in Lapland and can be seen in The Times around July! Here's a sneaky peak of what can be expected....

"Once we’d gone through the basics, the hunt was on. And hunt is exactly what you have to do to witness night after night of spectacular aurora displays. Each evening we left our cabin in the Vasatokka Nature Reserve around 6.30pm, having read the aurora forecast on spaceweather.com. As we always headed north – not that there was much more north than where we were, with the Arctic Ocean only two hours away by car - the chances of catching an aurora were good.

Each hunt lasted about six hours and often ranged over hundreds of kilometres along the Finland/Norwegian border, with Andy’s expert eyes always scanning the skies like a hawk for the signs of an aurora forming. Part of the thrill of the chase was coming round a bend in the road and seeing the aurora burst in front of the car. At those times we had to leap out, make quick judgements on composition and work with the location. We kept our cameras always ready to roll, with batteries and extra cards close to your body to prevent the extreme cold draining the power (although to be fair, the Canon batteries lasted all night)."

We also get a cheeky mention in the article as well, always good! Big thanks go to Paul for the write up and of course Andy Keen for those spectacular photos!
