Discovering New Places - Batford Springs, Harpenden

I couldn't have asked for a more chilled start to the weekend just gone. Friday night was spent wondering around and watching the sun go down at Batford Springs in Harpenden. A place I didn't even know existed!

Although relatively small, the area has a lovely green park and at the far end of it you have the meandering River Lea, which starts in Leagrave, Luton and carries on until it meets with the Thames.

It's all very tranquil, plenty of trees and wildlife, we were even lucky enough to spot a Heron making it's exit from the reeds into the river. There's also a bridged footpath where you can dangle your feet below and watch the scores of fish dash about underneath you.

We'd timed our visit perfectly, the light was starting to fade, outside noise was at a hush and all you could hear were the birds in the trees and the soothing sound of flowing water from the river. Well worth a visit if you're around and about the Beds, Herts and Bucks area!
