Bouldering to Bed & Climbing Vicars

Getting outdoors is always to be recommended, sampling the fresh air and exploring the hills and mountains. But what if you could quench your thirst for exercise and climbing in your own home? Built by Naf Architect & Design for a family of four in Tokyo, this unique house comes with a 23ft climbing wall built inside! The wall connects two floors of living space as well as a rooftop terrace, designer Akio Nakasa explains, "We aimed to create versatile living space with allows more opportunities to socialise with neighbours while multiplying family pleasure by closely connecting the ground and rooftop with three means of transportation." If you don't fancy a climb or happen to have had one too many Christmas beverages, the house also includes ladders and stairs, though the stairs maybe the best mode of making your way upstairs to your bed if that is the case!

The installation of climbing apparatus in conventional buildings isn't just something consigned to Japan however. In 2011 a church in Barnstaple installed a £12,000, 25ft high climbing wall inside. Reverend Mr Dodwell said the wall was a "natural option" for the inside of the 19th Century tower because of his former job as an outdoor activities instructor.
