Autumn/Winter 2012 Sneak Preview 2#: The Montane Men's Ace Jacket and Featherlite Down Jacket

Sneak Previews are coming in thick and fast this week, following on from Monday's Bergans Sneak Preview we're diving head first into Montane!

I've always been a fan of Montane, with their innovative and lightweight gear designed for the active user. I absolutely swear by the Featherlite Smock, it's the ideal companion for an evening jog. It's lightweight, coming in at around 105g, has a water repellent finish and of course keeps the wind at bay. However I digress, it's time to take a look and two new products for the Autumn/Winter!

Starting off with a new Softshell, we have the Montane Men's Ace Jacket. Designed as a lightweight rock climbing jacket its ideal for use on a multi pitch or bouldering on colder days, although it'll look as equally at home for just general use, at the Rugby or down at the Football. One of the jackets major appeals is it's high loft inner, so not only is it ultra soft and cosy to wear, it's also going to keep you warm on those nippier days. It's been constructed using OkEarth recycled fabrics, so you don't have to fret about your carbon footprint. The Ace has flat locked sewn seams throughout for extra durability as well as next to skin comfort. The jackets articulated arms allow for high reach movement and it's tailored fit has been designed to reduce hem lift, so it really does appeal to climbers and boulderers alike.

The Ace Jacket has been adorned with two hand pockets, positioned well clear of backpack or climbing harness belts and a full length reversed, baffled YKK front zip for ease of use with packs and harnesses. The cuffs are elasticated for flexibility, which also gives you the option to roll those sleeves up to aid cooling. An adjustable hem also allows for heat regulation.

The Montane Men's Ace Jacket will cost around £90 when it comes into us and we're getting it in two colours; Moroccan  Blue with Alpine Red zips and Black with Steel zips. It weights in at a pretty lightweight 480g.

Ace Jacket

Next up is the Montane Men's Featherlite Down Jacket. Again it's new for AW12 and is an ultra light, highly compressible micro baffle mountain jacket. It's a very versatile piece for all year round use, you can wear it as both a mid layer or as an outer layer depending on your climate. The jacket uses a Pertex Quantum outer fabric, one of the lightest currently available. Although light, the Quantum fabric still has excellent strength to weight ratio as well as being equipped with a DWR treatment, to help ward off snow drift and light showers.

The Featherlite Down Jacket has a 93/7 750+ fill and comes with it's own stuff sac so it can be easily compressed and stored away when not in use. The jacket has a micro baffle anatomical construction to allow for perfect loft space as well as maintaining a great amount of flexibility in the movement of the jacket. It's mountainous construction means it's been made with articulated arms to allow for high reach and pockets situated away from any pack or harness belts.

For ultimate protection the jacket has a down filled technical hood with 3 way adjustment for optimum user comfort and performance. The full length, reversed and baffled YKK front zip also makes for ease of use when wearing a pack or climbing harness. The Featherlite also features subtle Scotchlite reflectivity for extra safety.

Featherlite Down Jacket

The Montane Men's Featherlite Down Jacket will cost around £150 when it comes into us. We've got it due in three colours; Electric Blue/Steel, Black/Kiwi and the very colourfully named Jelly Bean/Cad Yellow.
