Something For The Weekend #3

Photobucket

Well the last week has absolutely flown by, and here we are again trying to give a taster of what to do out and about this weekend. Fingers crossed your weekend might be a tad more successful than my last. During work on Saturday the sun was gleaming, the air was humid and then I made the huge mistake of stepping outside and going to a friends BBQ for the evening, just as the heaven's opened and let it rip. The weather eh?

Anyway, soggy BBQ aside, here's a helping hand, just in case you havn't got anything in the diary for this Saturday and Sunday.

First up we've got one of the very best pub walking routes. This route takes you up to Elterwater Village, at the entrance of the Great Langdale Valley. The village and valley itself are steeped in history. Many of the cottages in Elterwater were built to house the many quarrymen working in the slate mines around the village. These days a lot of these picturesque houses can be rented out for holidaying visitors.

The walk itself talks you past The Britannia Pub with it's cosy bar, scrumptious food and delectable ales, including; Coniston Bluebird and Thwaites Wainwright. Onwards it leads you through the base of an enormous disused quarry and past great caverns. As you ascend then descend again you encounter a small waterfall, ideal for a few piccies. The route then ambles past the Dungeon Ghyll Hotel where you can stop for refreshments and a bite to eat.

As you set off again the walk takes you over a kissing gate (because every good walk has a kissing gate) and past Baysbrown farm on then on through a charming and beautiful bit of woodland. You then end up back at Elterwater where you can decant yourself into a comfy chair back at the Britannia for a pint of Coniston Bluebird and a hearty meal.

Not into that? Try this...
