SS14 Sneak Preview #1: The Marmot Men's Thermo Hoody

We do this every year, we get into the depth of the current season and then bring you sneak previews for the the next season for a completely different climate! Well, I say 'completely different climate', what I actually mean is a Summer season in which you get 2-3 days where the temperature gets a couple of degrees hotter than the previous Winter season. But we won't be pessimists, it's going to be a scorcher of a Summer! Ahem.

But I digress...yes, new seasons always bring a few new brands into play and this season we're particularly excited about stocking one specific new brand, Marmot! Here's the Marmot Story...

In April 1971, University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in Alaska on the Juneau Icefields on a school project in Glaciology. It was here on the glacier, amongst these students, that the idea of a Marmot club began.

Eric did a winter ascent of the Grand Teton in Wyoming with Tom Boyce of Grand Junction, Colorado in 1973. Eric and Dave joined Tom in Colorado that next Spring. There, the threesome rented a 100 year old stone building near downtown that used to be a grocery store, and opened a rental and retail shop under the name of Marmot Mountain Works. They taught cross-country skiing in the winter to get by. Thus, in the spring of 1974, Marmot the company was born.

Marmot grew from 7 dealers in 1974 to 11 in 1977. Specialized, knowledgeable, trained retailers were always part of the original equation.

Marmot has grown since 1977. It is now headquartered in Rohnert Park, California. It now has offices in California, Colorado, Canada, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Sweden and Germany. Its products are distributed in over 60 countries.

Marmot crafts professionals quality outdoor gear, born from working mountain guides and instructors. Inspired by the Alpinist spirit of adventure to search and achieve in a harsh world, their products are simple, appropriate, dependable and damn good looking.

We've still got a few months of the Winter season to get through yet, but we thought we'd bring you a little sneaky peak, a teaser if you will, of one of the products we're due in for the Spring/Summer 2014 season.

Say hello to the Marmot Men's Thermo Hoody. Made with highly efficient Polartec Power Dry, it's a great choice for the active user that wants to stay warm on the go. It features an attached hood, giving all round weather protection for your head. The Hoody has flatlock construction throughout, ensuring a lack of chafing, a highly annoying ailment, especially when your involved in more high octane pursuits!

A zippered chest pocket on the front allows you to store those little essentials and accessories you might need while your out and about; a healthy packet of Haribo perhaps. Elastic bound cuffs tidy the sleeve's off neatly and comfortably. There's also thumb loops featured to try and help cut out the draft blowing up the sleeves and for a neater overall fit to the body.

We've got the Thermo Hoody due in two colours; Dark Azure/Navy Blue (above) and Steel/Cinder (below).

When it arrives into us it'll be around £100, though we do often have 10% off for the majority of new items that come into us anyway! Stay tuned for more Marmot and other Spring/Summer 2014 Sneak Previews coming your way in the near future!
