Something For The Weekend #1

Photobucket

Welcome to a new little feature we've got going at the Outdoorkit Blog. Every Wednesday we'll be bringing you the lowdown on all things quirky, sporty and outdoorsy to look forward to for the forthcoming weekend. Plus we'll be bringing you the product of the day and obviously with this feature being brought to you on a Wednesday, you'll have more than enough time to order it and receive it for the weekend!

To be fair we didn't have to look too far for the standout event of this weekend. Wimbledon anyone? We've got the Women's Final on Saturday and the Men's Final on Sunday. And their both still well up for grabs, especially now the Williams sister's have been knocked out of the Women's Single's, the door is well and truly open to make Wimbledon History. My Money's on Sabine Lisicki, but we shall see!

The Men's Single's are just as tight with the 'big four' of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and our friend Mr Murray (This article was started before Mr Federer got knocked out..) likely to slog it out in the semi's. Again though, there may well be a few surprises, especially with Tomic vs Djokovic. Tomic, only 18, has done fantastically to get this far. Djokovic was looking rather startled against Baghdatis in the last round, as was his racket after taking, not one, but FOUR pretty impressive beatings. He made it through though, so hopefully it'll turn out to be a cracker.

And now for the product of the week. The North Face Men's Resolve Jacket. It's simple, light and most importantly waterproof. Plus if you are out at Wimbledon, it's great if you find yourself stuck out on Court 18 watching the Men's Double's or taking in the big screen on Murray Mount when the heavens decide to open.

Not into that? Try this...

So that's the obvious thing to look out for this weekend. If you look hard enough however, and hit google (and all other good search engines) like you've never hit it before, you'll be guarenteed to find a plethora of entertaining, informative and rather wacky things to help fill up your weekend.

One such event is taking place at the Guildhall Yard, London. The Gladiator Games London will immerse you in a sensational recreation of the Roman style Olympic Games. The Guildhall Yard site used to house one of the biggest Ampitheatres in all of Brittania. Today you can re-live the atmosphere as a brand new 1,500 capacity arena has been built specifically for this event.

You can expect to see spectacular swordfights and breathtaking duels with Gladiators clad in full protective armour. Held by the Museum of London, the games promise to be brutally realistic, while all the time being informative and educational, so it really is (without trying to sound too cliche) fun for all the family!

If your on the lookout for something a little more slow paced, why not get yourself down to the Royal Albert Hall for Yuri Gagarin and The Dawn Of Space Exploration Exhibit. See "rarely seen contemporary photographs from the archives of RIA Novosti, Russia's leading news agency...telling the story of Gargarin's early life, his historic flight and his visit to the UK in July 1961." The exhibit is on from 9th June - 4th July.

Don’t forget if you place your order before 4:30pm on weekdays it’s despatched on a next working day delivery!
