The North Face Insulated Varius Guide Jacket is, as you might expect, an insulated version of the Varius Guide jacket. The outer shell of the jacket is the same as the Varius Guide: HyVent fabric, making it waterproof and breathable in a standard fit, leaving a little room for movement and to put some layers underneath. There's also a fully adjustable, removeable hood with lower face protection, a brushed collar lining, pit zips and an elastic wind skirt.
The difference then, is purely the insulation. This is 120g of Heatseeker, a synthetic insulation that is extremely compressible and durable without losing any of its insulating properties. Warmth wise, this should keep you warm in moderately cold weather; for extreme cold you're going to want to couple this with some serious underlayers or even go for a warmer down jacket or something from The North Face's Summit Series.
The Varius Guide has proved itself over the years through its popularity with skiers and snowboarders - the Insulated Varius Guide should do the same!
